The baseball team swept a home doubleheader from the City College of New York on Sunday afternoon at the baseball complex on the campus of Bronx Community College.

Sophomore Daniel Brudie earned the first game win with junior Ryan McGuire closing out the victory to help the team improve to 10-5 overall and 4-0 in CUNYAC.

Junior Arturo Ledesma and sophomore Manuel Guerrero each hit solo home runs, while Joseph Valentin continued his outstanding senior leadership by batting 3-for-4, with two singles, a double and two RBI. Senior Jorge Rosado and Ledesma scored three runs each.

The Bearcats broke open the game with five runs in the third inning.

In the second game, David Chestnut dominated on the mound with a 1-hit shutout for the 2-0 victory.

The Bearcats scored a run in each of the first two innings. Freshman Thomas Daly hit a ground out RBI to score Rosado in the first, while Joseph Valentin stole home during a double steal attempt in the next inning.

The team’s 10 total wins this season already surpass the win total from each of the previous two years (four wins in 2008, nine wins in 2007).

The baseball team will continue their schedule on Tuesday with a 4:30 pm single non-conference  road game at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York.
