Bearcats End 5-Game Losing Streak, Defeat Norwich 9-3 as Valentin Earns 2nd Win

The baseball team defeated Norwich University of Vermont, 9-3, in a single non-conference game played on Sunday morning in Cocoa, Florida.

The victory ends a five-game losing streak as the Bearcats improve to a 4-6 record on the regular season, while the Cadets of Norwich fall to a 1-7 record.

Jason Valentin earned his second victory by pitching five innings with one earned run, while Jeffrey Merker earned the save with four innings pitched and one unearned run.

The Bearcats were leading 3-2 heading into the sixth inning, but broke open the game with six runs for a 9-2 lead. That was enough to hold on to the victory and end the trip on a positive note.

Peter Dinolfo had another solid game by batting 2-for-5, with two singles and three total RBI. Joseph Murray batted 2-for-4, with three stolen bases.

Richard Melendez batted 2-for-5, with two singles in the victory.

The baseball team will return to action on Tuesday night with a 7:00 pm non-conference single game at SUNY-Old Westbury (2-8 record) of the Skyline Conference.
