The baseball team defeated the Rangers of Drew University, 6-5, in non-conference contest on Thursday afternoon in Madison, New Jersey.

The visiting Bearcats began the game by scoring three runs in their first at-bat, and added two more in the fourth inning to lead 5-1.

The Rangers rallied with two runs in their bottom half of the fourth inning, and scored a run in each of the fifth and seventh innings to tie the game at 5-5.

The Bearcats never lost their composure and scored the winning run in the eight inning on a sacrifice fly by John Avona to score David Chestnut for the 6-5 final score.

Jason Valentin gets the no decision despite a solid effort on the mound (6IP, 5H, 3ER, 7K), while Jeffrey Merker earns his first pitching win in relief (3IP, 2H, 1ER).

Peter Dinolfo led the Bearcats at the plate by batting 2-for-3, with an RBI. Avona hit an RBI triple in the fourth inning to score DiNolfo.

Overall, the Bearcats totaled six runs on seven hits, while Drew totaled five runs on seven hits.

The baseball team will continue their busy schedule on Friday, April 16, with a rescheduled 3:30 pm single game at Ramapo College in Mahwah, New Jersey.
