Manhattanville Rally to Defeat the Bearcats, 14-6

The baseball team lost a 14-6 non-conference game to Manhattanville College on Tuesday afternoon at MCU Park in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn.

The Bearcats (11-16) began the game in the best possible way by scoring five runs via five total hits and three stolen bases to take the early 5-0 lead in their first at-bat.

The Valiants of Manhattanville (15-15) scored their first run in the top of the second inning, but the Bearcats responded with another run in the bottom of the second inning on a sacrifice fly RBI by David Chestnut to score Justin Torres for the 6-1 lead.

Manhattanville’s pitching staff did not allow any further runs, while their offense would score 13 more the rest of the game off of 12 total hits to record the 14-6 victory.

John Avona (2-3, two RBI), David Chestnut (2-4, two RBI), and Joseph Murray (2-3) led the Bearcats at the plate.

Daniel Fiorito led the visitors by batting 3-for-4, with one RBI and three total runs scored.

The baseball team will return to action on Thursday, April 22, with a non-conference home game against St. Joseph’s College of Brooklyn. First pitch at the baseball field of Bronx Community College is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
