The Bearcats lost a tripleheader to Staten Island in a busy day of CUNYAC baseball on Saturday afternoon at the College of Staten Island baseball complex.

The Bearcats lost by scores of 10-1, 12-7, and 12-1 to drop to an 11-20 overall record and 5-7 in CUNYAC (fourth place), while the Dolphins improve to 26-9 overall and 11-1 in CUNYAC (first place).

The two teams were initially scheduled to play two games today and one on Sunday, but due to the forecast for rain (Sunday to Tuesday) and the proximity of the CUNYAC Tournament (Thursday to Saturday), the two teams agreed to play a rare tripleheader to help finish the conference schedule on a sunny day.

John Jay (10-26, 6-6 CUNYAC) and CCNY (13-18, 5-7 CUNYAC) also played a tripleheader today at the American Legion Complex with the Bloodhounds winning two of three games to clinch second place. Baruch and CCNY finish in a tie for third, but CCNY wins the tie-breaker head-to-head, since they won two of three games between the two teams. Lehman (8-21, 3-9 CUNYAC) finishes in fifth place and does not qualify for the four-team tournament.

Staten Island  (#1 seed), John Jay (#2 seed), CCNY (#3 seed), and Baruch (#4 seed) will all compete in the CUNYAC Tournament that will get underway on Thursday, April 29, at MCU Park in Brooklyn. The CUNY Athletic Conference will release the entire double-elimination tournament schedule and times on Monday night.

In the opening game 10-1 loss to Staten Island, the Bearcats were limited to three hits. They scored their only run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Thomas Daly to score Joseph Murray.

In the middle game, Staten Island jumped out to a 6-1 lead and never relinquished that advantage to record the 12-7 victory. The Bearcats totaled seven runs on eight hits with Richard Melendez leading the way by batting 2-for-4, with one run scored.

In the final game, the Bearcats were again limited to three hits in the 12-1 loss. Peter Dinolfo scored the only run in the third inning of play. For more information and play-by-play on all three games, please click the box score links at the top of this page.

The baseball team will return to action on Tuesday, April 27, with a 3:30 pm single non-conference road game (pending weather) at the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University.
