The women’s volleyball team split their two matches on Saturday at the CUNYAC Multi-Match hosted by York College in Jamaica, New York.

In their first match, the Bearcats (4-3, 1-1 CUNYAC) lost a five-set thriller (17-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-23, 12-15) to Hunter (2-2, 2-0 CUNYAC) to open the conference schedule.

Christina Pierre led the Bearcats with 17 kills, while Lauren Hayden had another solid match with 11 kills and 10 digs. Melinda Santiago led the offensive attack with 38 assists and Posey Wilson finished tops on the defensive end with 18 total digs.

Carissa Oliveira and Rebecca Peralta both contributed five kills each in the tough loss.

In the second match against York, the Bearcats bounced back to record a convincing 25-5, 25-22, 25-6 victory against the Cardinals.

Brittany Sorensen led the way with five kills and Pierre added four kills. Santiago finished with 17 assists and three service aces.

The women’s volleyball team will return to action on Tuesday, September 14, with a 6:00 pm home CUNYAC match against the City College of New York.
