The women’s volleyball team won their sixth consecutive match by sweeping the Red Hawks of Montclair State University in a non-conference match played on Saturday afternoon in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats (16-8) posted a 25-9, 25-15, 25-22 victory to also improve to a 4-1 record this season against teams that compete in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Montclair State drops to 9-14 overall.

The Bearcats scored the first six points of the first set behind the serving of Melinda Santiago to cruise to the opening 25-9 victory. The team hit for a .367 hitting percentage in the second set and never looked back to record their 16th win of the regular season.

Jessica Wu, the CUNYAC Rookie of the Week, led the way again with 11 kills (.429) and 10 digs, while Lauren Hayden had a solid match with 10 kills by hitting an outstanding .529.

Posey Wilson totaled 25 digs and Santiago finished with 30 assists. Megan Moody recorded six kills and seven digs in the afternoon victory played as part of Alumni Homecoming Weekend on campus.

Daniella Salemo led the visiting Red Hawks with a team-high eight kills.

The women’s volleyball team will return to action on Tuesday, October 18, with a 7:00 pm CUNYAC home contest against Medgar Evers College.
