The women’s tennis team suffered a tough 5-3 loss to York College in a quarterfinal round match of the 2011 CUNYAC Championship that took place on Thursday in Jamaica, New York.

The two teams started doubles play at 3:30 pm on the tennis courts of York College, but due to darkness, the quarterfinal was forced to be finished at nearby Liberty Park under the lights.

York was leading 4-3 at the time the match was temporarily stopped with #5 and #6 singles remaining to be finished.

At 7:49 pm, York won one of the two remaining singles to clinch the fifth point to eliminate the Bearcats from the tournament to end a streak of six consecutive years of playing in Saturday’s championship match.

Head Coach Florin Giuglescu was proud of his young team that battled to the final point.
