Men's & Women's Swimming Defeat Staten Island

The men’s and women’s swimming teams each recorded conference-opening victories on Wednesday night at the College of Staten Island Dolphins.

The women (2-1, 1-0 CUNYAC) recorded a 114-92 victory, while the men (2-1, 1-0 CUNYAC) won 116-90 to each begin their CUNYAC schedule on a winning note.

Priscilla Arana led the women by posting victories in the 1,000 yard freestyle, 100 yard freestyle and teamed up with Julia Sung, Apolonia Cieslak and Alyssa Lubrino to win the 200 yard medley relay.

Cieslak was victorious in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard butterfly, while Sung won the 100 yard breaststroke and combined with
Denisse Duran Llano, Sally Lim and Lubrino to win the 200 yard freestyle relay.

Lim also won the 500 yard free style and 200 individual medley.

On the men’s side,
George Martinez broke his own freshman and school record with a victory in the 1,000 yard freestyle. He also won the 500 yard freestyle.

Gabriel Yanez, who a day earlier on Tuesday was part of the men’s cross country team that finished in second place at the CUNYAC Championships, won the 200 yard individual medley, 100 yard backstroke and teamed up with Jeffrey Wong, Ryan Flynn and James Chang in the winning 200 yard medley relay.

Chang also won the 200 yard freestyle and was second in the 100 yard butterfly. Flynn was victorious in the 100 yard freestyle and second in the 50 yard freestyle.

The men’s and women’s swimming teams will return to action on Friday, November 11, with a 6:00 pm CUNYAC home meet against the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College.
