Swimming Teams Record Best-Ever Finishes at ECAC Regional Finals

INDIVIDUAL EVENT RESULTS

The men’s and women’s swimming teams each posted their best team finishes at the annual ECAC Season Warm Up Open Championships hosted this past weekend by the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, New York.

The men finished in fifth place, while the women were sixth, against a field of competition from among the Division I, II and III levels from throughout the Northeast United States.

The highlights for the men consisted of the 200 yard medley relay team of
Gabriel Yanez, Jeffrey Wong, James Chang and Ryan Flynn finishing in fifth place, while also qualifying for the ECAC Open Championships in that event to be hosted by Navy in Annapolis, Maryland on February 24-26, 2012.

Yanez also qualified for the ECAC in February in the 100 and 200 yard butterfly events. Chang qualified in the 100 yard butterfly and Flynn will also be in Annapolis with the 50 yard freestyle.

Wong placed seventh in the 100 yard breaststroke, breaking his brother's (Justin) school record in the process, and was 11th in the 200 yard breaststroke.

The relay team of
Kenny Kim, Flynn, Chang and Yanez finished in third place overall in the 400 yard freestyle relay.

George Martinez broke the school and freshman record in the 1,650 yard freestyle event, and later broke the school freshman record in the 500 yard freestyle and 400 yard individual medley events.

Per the women, the top highlight consisted of the 200 yard freestyle relay team of
Alyssa Lubrino, Denisse Duran Llano, Apolonia Cieslak and Julia Sung just missing qualifying for the ECAC with a fourth place finish in the event.

Priscilla Arana had the top individual finish amongst the Baruch women with a sixth place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke and 10th in the 100 yard breaststroke.

Sally Lim
recorded a new school freshman record in the 100 yard butterfly.   

The men’s and women’s swimming teams will return to action on Thursday, December 8, with a dual meet against NCAA Division II opposition Queens College and Adelphi University.

The first event at Queens College in Flushing, New York is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
