UPDATED BOX SCORE

The Panthers of Old Westbury State scored three runs in their final at-bat to defeat the Baruch College Bearcats, 8-7, in a non-conference contest played on Thursday afternoon in Old Westbury, New York.

The visiting Bearcats (11-15) began the contest on a positive note by jumping out to a 5-1 advantage after five innings.

Alvin Mata opened the scoring in the first inning with a triple for two RBI. In the fourth inning, Pooti Ben Pradubsri hit an RBI triple and Anthony Melendez smacked an RBI double. The Bearcats scored again in the fifth inning on a RBI double by John Yuksekol for a 5-1 lead.

The bats of Old Westbury (19-15) were quiet for the first six innings, but they exploded with three runs in the seventh, one in the eight, and three in the ninth to walk off with a dramatic 8-7 home victory and hand the Bearcats the disappointing road loss.

Richard Melendez (3-for-5, two runs), Yuksekol (3-for-4, two runs, 1 RBI) and Mata (3-for-5, 3 RBI) led the Bearcats at the plate.

The baseball team will return to action on Friday, April 22, with a CUNYAC home doubleheader and battle for first place against the College of Staten Island. First pitch at the MCU Park in Coney Island is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
