Men Clinch 1st-Ever CUNYAC Regular Season Title, Women Stay Undefeated in CUNYAC

Relays: 1st place – 11pts, 2nd place – 4pts, 3rd Place - 2pts

Individual: 1st Place – 9pts, 2nd Place - 4pts, 3rd Place- 3pts, 4th Place – 2pts, 5th Place -1 pt

The men’s and women’s swimming teams each remained undefeated in the CUNYAC standings following victories on Monday night at Lehman College in the Bronx.

The women (7-3, 5-0) coasted to a 108-58 victory by winning every event, while the men clinched their first-ever CUNYAC regular season title with a 122-77 victory.

The women were led by senior
Priscilla Arana, who won the 200 individual medley and teammed up with Yulia Lavrentieva, Sally Lim and Jessica Lin to win the 200 medley relay. Lim also won the 100 butterfly event.

Denisse Duran Llano, who was named the CUNYAC Rookie Swimmer of the Week, continued her solid week by winning the 100 and 1,000 freestyle events. Julia Sung captured first place in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke events.   

Apolonia Cieslak won the 50 freestyle and was second to her own teammate (Llano) in the 100 freestyle.

Kenny Kim led the men’s team (6-3, 4-0 CUNYAC) by winning the 200 freestyle and broke his own school record in the process. He also finished first in the 100 butterfly.

George Martinez was victorious in the arduous 1,000 freestyle and was second in the 500 freestyle to his teammate Patrick Campbell. Campbell finished second to Martinez in the 1,000 freestyle.

Ryan Flynn won the 50 freestyle and was touched out in the 100 freestyle for second place.

Newcomer
Chudchane Sangtippawan had a brilliant debut by winning the 100 breaststroke with a new school and freshman record. He was second to teammate Flynn in the 50 freestyle.

The women’s swimming team will return to action next with a home CUNYAC women’s meet in the ARC Aquatic Center against John Jay College on Friday, January 13, at 6:00 pm.

The men will next resume competing on January 19 with a 6:00 pm home non-conference meet against SUNY-Maritime on Senior Night.
