The men’s and women’s swimming teams each recorded big victories in a tri-meet on Thursday night in the ARC Aquatic Center.

The women (10-3) won twice, and as a result, set the new team record for most wins in a regular season with 10 (previous record 9 wins). They men (7-3) also set their own regular season record with their seventh win (previous record 6 wins).

During the second break, Head Coach Charles Lampasso, his assistant coaches and the entire men’s and women’s swimming roster honored seniors
Jeffrey Wong, Gustavo San Martin Dancourt, Olga Gaitskhoki, Apolonia Cieslak and Priscilla Arana.

The women began the meet by defeating their two opponents in the 200 medley relay by a nine second margin behind the efforts of
Julia Sung, Priscilla Arana, Sally Lim and Denisse Duran Llano. Arana (800 freestyle, 100 breastroke), Duran-Llano (200 freestyle), and Lim (200 individual medley) all added to the point totals with victories in other individual events.

Alyssa Lubrino (50 & 100 freestyle) and Cieslak (100 butterfly) also recorded individual victories in the record-setting evening against their opponents from the nearby Skyline Conference. The women ended the meet with Lubrino, Cieslak, Duran-Llano and Sung breaking a school record in winning the 200 freestyle relay.

The men competed against SUNY-Maritime only, since St. Joseph’s does not field a men’s team.

They recorded a big victory and set a school record in the 200 medley relay behind the efforts of
Daniel Donis, Chudchane Sangtippawan, Kenny Kim and Ryan Flynn.

In the second event, the grueling 800 freestyle, the Bearcats captured the top three places with
George Martinez, Patrick Campbell and Michael Matskovsky all winning in that order.

Flynn (100 & 200 freestyle), Kim (50 free), Sangtippawan (200 individual medley),
Martinez (400 freestyle), and Gabriel Yanez (100 butterfly) all recorded individual victories in defeating their non-conference opposition from the Skyline Conference.

The men’s and women’s swimming teams will return to action on February 2-4, as they will be competing in the CUNYAC Championships to be hosted by Lehman College in the Bronx.
