The men’s and women’s swimming teams competed against the Division II programs of Queens College and Adelphi University on Wednesday, December 12, in Flushing, New York.

The men won both of their encounters, while the women spilt against the higher level competition.

Individual Women’s Highlights (Yards)

*The women’s 200 yard medley relay team of Rose Lee, Sally Lim, Adrianna Martinez, and Alyssa Lubrino finished first against Queens and second against Adelphi with a time of 2:00.48.

*Julia Sung was victorious against Adelphi and second against Queens in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:05.92. Sung also won the 100 backstroke against both opponents with a time of 1:04.36. She wrapped up her night with another double victory in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.66.

*Martinez scored a double victory in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:05.48.

*Lubrino had a double victory in the 50 free with a time of 26.88. She was first against Adelphi and second against Queens in the 100 freestyle with a time of 59.50.

*Denisse Duran Llano was first against Queens in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 12:39.97. She also anchored the first place 200 freestyle relay against the two schools with teammates Lee, Martinez and Jacqueline Smith. They won with a time of 1:47.42 and this win helped solidify the overall team victory against Queens College.

Individual Men’s Highlights (Yards)

*The men’s 200 yard medley relay team of Gabriel Yanez, Jonathan Hla, Kenny Kim, and James Chang finished first against Adelphi and second against Queens with a time of 1:42.59.

*Kim won a double victory in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.74. He also scored a double victory in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.51.

*George Martinez scored a double victory in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:18.23. He finished second against both teams in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:23.90.

*Jacky Lau scored a double victory in the 100 backstroke (57.81). He finished first against Queens and second against Adelphi in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:04.93.

*Patrick Campbell finished second to his teammate Martinez in the 1,000 freestyle (11:19.36) and third in the 500 freestyle (5:24.57).

*Michael Matskovsky scored a key second place finish against both teams in the 100 backstroke (58.83). That result helped place the Bearcats in striking distance of Queens College and notched the team victory against Adelphi.

*Ryan Flynn scored a double victory in the 50 free with a time of 22.19. He won against Adelphi and was second against Queens in the 100 freestyle events with a time of 49.72. Flynn anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay with teammates Lau, Yanez and Chang to defeat Queens College for a sweep of two Division II programs this evening.
