Men’s & Women’s Swimming Teams Each Win Third Straight CUNYAC Championship

The men’s and women’s swimming teams each accomplished a “three-peat” on Saturday to lift the CUNYAC Championship Trophy for the third straight year at the Lehman College Apex Aquatic Center in the Bronx.

The men dominated with 1,007 points, followed by Lehman (735.5), Staten Island (586), and Brooklyn (301). Head Coach Charles Lampasso was named the CUNYAC Men’s Coach of the Year for the second straight season and fourth time overall.

Jeffrey Wong was honored by winning the MSOA Katz Family Scholar-Athlete CUNYAC Award that is named in honor of John Jay Emeritus Head Coach Jane Katz and her family. The award is in cooperation with the Metropolitan Swimming Officials Association and is presented to a senior based upon academic performance, athletic accomplishments, community service and dedication to the sport of swimming.

On the women’s side, the Bearcats (1,058) swam past second place Hunter College (918), followed by John Jay (443), Lehman (332), Brooklyn (271), and Staten Island (253).

Julia Sung was busy at the awards stage by winning the CUNYAC Women's Performer of the Meet for her efforts in the exciting three day finals. She later won the award as the Top CUNYAC Women's Performer of the Year for her strong performances during the regular season.

The CUNY Athletic Conference will announce the All-Stars for the 2011-12 regular season at a later date.

The men’s and women’s swimming teams will next turn their attention to the regional
“Metro Finals”
on the weekend of February 17-19 to be hosted by Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
