BOX SCORE

The baseball team won for the fourth time in their last five games by defeating the College of Mount Saint Vincent, 5-1, in a non-conference home game played on Tuesday afternoon at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, New York.

Jesus Izarra, the 2011 CUNYAC Pitcher of the Year, pitched a complete game allowing only one run on 11 hits to go along with 10 strikeouts. Izzara dominated all afternoon to knock off a very strong opponent that earlier this season defeated #3-ranked Kean University.

The Bearcats totaled only six hits but still managed to register the win to even their record at 7-7.

They jumped out to a quick advantage by scoring four runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Steve Hession hit an RBI single to score Nicholas Carmine with the opening run. Thomas Daly followed up with a two RBI single to score Hession and Alvin Mata, while later in the inning Yancy Taveras blasted a solo homerun, his third of the season, to cap off the busy four-run inning.

The Dolphins scored a run in the fourth inning to cut the score to 4-1, but the Bearcats added one more run in the fifth inning. Yancy Taveras smacked an RBI double to score Alvin Mata for the 5-1 final score and first-ever victory against Mount Saint Vincent.
