SENIOR NIGHT: Men Win CUNYAC Regular Season Championship, Women Also Win Big vs Lehman

The men's and women's swimming teams each defeated the Lightning of Lehman College on Friday night to finish their CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) schedule undefeated.

The men posted a convincing 129-76 victory to win the CUNYAC regular season championship in first place with a 4-0 record.

The women, who won the CUNYAC regular season championship in first place during their last conference meet at John Jay, posted a 97-75 victory this evening to finish 6-0 in the CUNYAC.

The two teams broke a number of school records during the final home meet of the season. For a complete list of highlights, please scroll to the bottom of this story.

During the meet, the team honored seniors
Sarocha Chinsena, Denisse Duran Llano, Alyssa Lubrino, Stephanie Wong, Jacqueline Smith, Ryan Flynn, Patrick Campbell, Aleksey Schukin, Kenny Kim, and Gabriel Yanez.

The men's and women's swimming teams will finish their regular season schedule with a non-conference meet at SUNY-Maritime on Tuesday, January 22, at 6:00 pm.

HIGHLIGHTS

*
Julia Sung, who already owns every school women's record in the 100 events, broke her own record in the 200 individual medley with a first place time of 2:30.72. She later broke Priscilla Arana's record in the 400 freestyle with a time of 5:00.66.

*
George Martinez broke the school record in the 800 freestyle (9:23.18) with a second place finish.

*
James Chang broke the school record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.04.

*
Jacky Lau continued his brilliant rookie season by breaking his own school and freshman record in the 100 backstroke with a first place time of 1:03.21.

*
Jonathan Hla broke the school and freshman record in the 100 breaststroke with a first place finish time of 1:10.25.

*The 200 freestyle relay record was shattered by over two seconds (1:38.90) behind the efforts of Kenny Kim, James Chang, Jacky Lau and Ryan Flynn to help wrap up the impressive meet victory over Lehman on Senior Night.
