Bearcats Easily Swim Past SUNY-Maritime, Men Set Season Record With 8th Win

The men's and women's swimming teams finished the regular season portion of their schedule on a winning note by defeating the Privateers of SUNY-Maritime on Monday night in the Bronx.

The women raised their record to 9-2 with a 128-61 victory, while the men posted a 114-98 victory to improve to 8-1. The eight wins are a men's team record for a regular season.


Julia Sung continues her fantastic junior season by setting yet another school record, this time in the 500 freestyle, with a time of 5:38.20, which was 23 seconds better than her second place opponent from Maritime.

The Bearcats will now prepare for the CUNYAC Championships, which are scheduled to begin on Thursday, January 31, at Lehman College.

Julianna Fricchione posted a victory in the arduous 1,000 freestyle with a time of 12:50.62. Jacqueline Smith (200 freestyle, 2:17.57), Alyssa Lubrino (50 freestyle, 26.44), Sally Lim (2:28.37, 200 individual medley), Adrianna Martinez (100 butterfly, 1:04.22) and Denisse Duran Llano (100 Freestyle, 58.83) also posted individual victories.

Rose Lee, the CUNYAC Rookie of the Week, posted an individual victory in the 100 backstroke (1:07.54) and teamed up with Sally Lim, Adrianna Martinez, and Denisse Duran Llano to win the 200 medley relay.

Jacky Lau, the CUNYAC Rookie of the Week, won individual victories in the 100 butterfly (56.09) and 200 freestyle (1:51.88), and teamed up with Kenny Kim, James Chang and Ryan Flynn to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:42.49.

Kenny Kim also individually won the 200 individual medley (2:07.27) and 500 freestyle (5:20.22) events.

George Martinez won the arduous 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:10.67. Michael Matskovsky took first in the 100 backstroke (59.45).

Ryan Flynn won two fast events in the 50 (22.23) and 100 freestyles (49.84).
