Women's Swimming Upsets Div. II Queens & Adelphi, Men Lose Tough Tri-Meet

The women's swimming team defeated a pair of Division II opponents in a tri-meet hosted by Queens College on Thursday night.

The women defeated Queens (61-54) and Adelphi (54-51) to raise their season record to 3-2, while the men lost to their counterparts from Queens (61-45) and Adelphi (60-35).

Two swimmers on the women's team also earned
weekly CUNYAC honors. Julia Sung was named the "Swimmer of the Week" and Daniela Marquez the "Rookie of the Week" for their solid starts to the first three meets of the season.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
 
*The team of Rose Lee, Julia Sung, Sally Lim and Daniela Marquez won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:56.06.

*Julia Sung stayed undefeated this season individually by racking up more wins in the 200 individual medley (2:16.77) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.54).

*Marquez finished second (26.89) in the 50 freestyle. Lee also finished in second in the 100 backstroke (1:05.50)

*Jennifer Chern won both 1 meter diving events contested with scores of 133.20 and 140.60

*Daniela Giraldo won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:03.29, which broke the school and freshman team record.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

*The team of Jacky Lau, Michael Matskovsky, Daniel Donis and James Chang started in winning fashion by winning the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:42.42.

*Lau continued his solid meet performance by winning the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.15 and 100 butterfly with a time of 55.66.   

*Donis took second place in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:13.91.

*Matskovsky was second in the 100 backstroke (1:02.43).
