Box Score

The baseball team knocked off St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn, 6-2, in a non-conference contest at MCU Park on Thursday afternoon.

The visiting Bears (6-9) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but the Bearcats (6-12) took control in the third inning.

Jasdeep Buttar smacked an RBI single and Nicholas LaForgia followed with his first homer of the season down the left field line to bring home Buttar for the 3-1 advantage.

They added to the lead in the fifth inning with an RBI double by
Angel Tejeda, who later in the inning came around to score on a wild pitch for a 5-1 score.

The Bears cut the score to 5-2 in the sixth inning, but Tejeda in the seventh kept up his hot hitting at the plate with a deep bomb over the left field wall for a 6-2 lead that would eventually stand as the final score.

Zachary T. Uher earned the win (6.2IP, 7H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 6K), while Ryan Smith pitched the last 2.1 innings of near perfect relief without allowing a runner on base to complete the victory on a warm afternoon in Coney Island.

The Bearcats will quickly return to action at MCU Park tomorrow afternoon with a 12:00 pm CUNYAC doubleheader against John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
