Bearcats Drop Doubleheader to New Jersey City

The softball team lost a road doubleheader (2-1, 9-1) to the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University on Tuesday afternoon in Jersey City.

The two teams played a very competitive first game. The Bearcats scored their only run in the first inning as current CUNYAC Rookie of the Week
Olivia Dellston crossed home plate via a fielder's choice RBI by Juliann Gross.

The Gothic Knights tied the game in the third inning on a wild pitch and took the lead for good in the sixth inning on a bases loaded walk to lead 2-1.

The visiting Bearcats did not go quietly and had two hits in their final at-bat, but could not push a run across the plate to see their three-game winning streak come to an end.

In the second game, the Bearcats scored a run again in their first at-bat as
Nicole Bellini smacked a hard liner to centerfield for an out. However, on the play, Dellston hurried from second to third base and then quickly scored on a throwing error by the second baseman for the early 1-0 lead.

The Gothic Knights would go on to score in each of the second through fifth innings to clinch the 9-1 win in five innings.

The Bearcats will next host their season opener on Thursday, March 31, with a 3 p.m. home doubleheader at Randall's Island (softball field #12) against the Dolphins from the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
