Baseball Splits DH vs CUNYAC Rival CSI, Clinch #2 Seed in CUNYAC Tournament

The baseball team split a CUNYAC doubleheader on Saturday at the College of Staten Island.

The Bearcats took the first game, 5-4, behind a solid complete game performance (7 IP, 6H 4 R, 3 ER, 5 K) from
Matthew Fazio. They dropped the second game, 7-1.

With the results, the Bearcats clinch second place in the CUNYAC regular season standings and the second seed. They will host a 4 p.m. playoff on Thursday, May 5, at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, New York. The CUNYAC will release the entire championship tournament schedule within the next 48 hours.

Please note, in addition to Baruch, Staten Island, Lehman, John Jay and CCNY, the conference has agreed to add Maine-Presque Island as an associate member in baseball and they will be the sixth team to compete in this year's tournament. The conference expects to add a seventh member in 2017.

In the first game,
Jasdeep Buttar had the big bat again with a pivotal two run double in the fourth inning. Fazio ran into trouble in the seventh inning, but shut down a late rally for his third pitching win.

In the second game, the Bearcats recorded eight hits, but too many scattered in each of the seven innings that did not enable the team to muster any rally against CSI ace Christian Cappellan (7 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K).
