Baseball Splits Doubleheader vs John Jay

The baseball team started their CUNYAC schedule by splitting a doubleheader against the Bloodhounds of John Jay College on Tuesday afternoon at the College of Staten Island baseball complex.

The two teams were originally scheduled to play this past Sunday, but due to weather issues, the doubleheader was rescheduled to today at Staten Island.

The home team Bearcats won the opener. They stormed out to a 5-0 lead after the first two innings and held on to the narrow 5-4 win.

John Paul Cattaro had an RBI ground out and Dan Daley hit a two-run double for the 3-0 lead after one inning. They added two more in the second on a Jasdeep Buttar two run double for the early 5-0 lead.

The visiting Bloodhounds scored four runs in the fourth inning to get as close as 5-4, but neither team would reach the plate the rest of the game to finish the 5-4 result.

Cameron Kitt (2-2 record) earned the win (5.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 8 K) and Matthew Fazio came out of the bullpen for his second save (1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K).

In the second game, the Bloodhounds established the tone early with four runs in the first inning and kept the Bearcats bats to only four hits the entire game for the 9-0 shutout.
