Women's Volleyball Drops Heartbreaker in Five to William Paterson

The women's volleyball team lost a highly-entertaining match to the Pioneers of William Paterson University on Thursday evening in Wayne, New Jersey.

The Bearcats, who totaled a season-high 63 kills compared to 49 by the Pioneers, lost with competitive scores of 17-25, 25-20, 26-24, 23-25, 13-15.

It was a career-high night for a number of players with Akilah Meulens tallying 23 kills. Three-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week Stephanie Cornwell had a career triple-double with 45 assists, 12 digs and 11 kills, hitting a solid. 308. She also contributed five aces.

The team was solid in the back with Leslie Ariza posting a career-high 22 digs. Marisa Bou and Alessandra Chavez each posted career-highs with 28 digs. Chaves also had 13 kills in a solid double-double effort.

Chelliah Phillips led the home team with 17 kills and nine total blocks.

The Bearcats will return to New Jersey on Saturday, October 1, with a tri-match at Rutgers-Newark in Newark, New Jersey. They will play Rutgers-Newark at 11 a.m, followed by SUNY Maritime College at 1 p.m.
