Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball: Swarthmore 7, Bearcats 4

The baseball team lost 7-4 to the Garnet of Swarthmore College on Wednesday afternoon at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.

The Bearcats started strong and scored first on an RBI double by
Ramon Moreta to plate Gilberto Mendoza, Jr. in the first inning.

The Garnet got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning with three runs and added another in the fifth to lead 4-1 after five.

The Bearcats cut the deficit to 4-3 in the sixth inning with RBI singles by
Jasdeep Buttar and Michael McGroarty. The Garnet quickly responded by adding one more run in the seventh inning, but an RBI ground out in the next Bearcat at-bat by Buttar kept the score close again at 5-4.

However, the opponent from the Centennial Conference wrapped up the win with two runs in the eighth and kept the Bearcats off the scoreboard in their final two at-bats to record the 7-4 Florida win.

Conor Eliott led the Garnet batting 3-for-5 with a run scored.

Moreta had a field day batting 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. McGroarty and
Edwin St. Hilaire each had two hits. Mendoza, Jr. had a triple and stolen base.

The Bearcats, who are in Florida to play eight games, will return to action tomorrow morning, Thursday, March 9, with a 9:00 a.m. morning doubleheader against Anna Maria College.
