Baseball Sweeps John Jay, CUNYAC Starts Thursday

The baseball team won both ends of a doubleheader versus John Jay, 7-3 and 7-1, on Sunday afternoon at MCU Park on Coney Island.
In the first inning of game 1, the Bearcats were able to get bases loaded off of three walks, with Angel Acevedo getting the first single of the game for two RBI. A wild pitch then got Edwin St. Hilaire to home plate. Acevedo then scored off an error to give the Bearcats the early 4-0 lead.

The Bearcats would go scoreless until the fourth inning, when
Michael McGroarty scored on Matthew Donofrio's RBI single to left field. They capped off the win in the final inning, with St. Hilaire coming up with a big hit with bases loaded to score two more runs. John Jay was unable to score more, despite having nine hits to Baruch's six.
Acevedo had a big game again to finish with two hits, two RBI, and a run. Ryan Warner gets the win on the mound to move to 3-0 on the season, pitching six innings with 3Ks.
The Bearcats got off to another hot start in the second game, with Donofrio, Emil Joel Lopez, and St. Hilaire scoring off five early hits. John Jay would cut the lead to one, and stayed close until the top of the fourth, when Raymond Maurer 's single with the bases loaded got the Bearcats two more runs to put them up, 5-2. They would score twice again in the final inning for the ventual 7-3 result.
Donofrio led with two runs, Robert McMahon had two hits, and both St. Hilaire, and Maurer contributed two RBI apiece. Three different pitchers took the mound for the Bearcats, and Matteo Flamio earned the win with 4IP and 3K.

The Bearcats will next turn their attention to the CUNYAC Tournament that will get underway on Thursday, May 4. The entire schedule, along with locations and time, will be announced on Monday.
