Baseball Explodes in Seventh Inning to Defeat Lehman (15-10) in High-Scoring Affair

Gilberto Mendoza, Jr. batted 3-5 with four RBI and two doubles as the Bearcats hit their way to a 15-10 victory at Lehman College on Saturday afternoon. Matthew Fazio pitched the last four innings, throwing five strikeouts.

Mendoza Jr. started the game off hot, smacking a double to plate Ramon Moreta and Matthew Donofrio home for the first two runs of the game.

Lehman's Carlo Francisco responded during the bottom of the first inning with a homer to center field with two men on base to jump ahead, 3-2.

The game was a back and forth contest until the top of the seventh inning with Lehman leading, 9-7.

Raymond Maurer started the late surge that would energize the Bearcats to score six runs in the top of that inning. Edwin St. Hilaire contributed with a single that would result in two more runs. Mendoza Jr. ended the top of the seventh with two RBI.

Maurer finished the game batting a career-high 4-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Francisco led the hosts batting 3-for-5 with five RBI and two homers.

The Bearcats improve to an overall record of 7-10.

The team will next host will host the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) in a doubleheader tomorrow, Sunday, April 9, at 12:00 p.m. Please note the doubleheader will now be played at Kingsborough Community College baseball field in Brooklyn, New York. UMPI is an associate member of CUNYAC baseball.
