Game Recap: Softball | | Written by Brian McMahon

Softball Opens Season With DH Sweep of York

The softball team opened its season in fine fashion today on Randall's Island. The Bearcats won both games of their doubleheader against York College, taking the first game 6-3, before routing the Cardinals 21-8 in the second.

Game 1

The Bearcats used a five-run fourth inning to erase York's 3-0 lead. Jooyoung Park got Baruch on the board when she singled with the bases loaded to drive in Daniela Lopez and Danielle Petrunti. Gabrielle Huezo then scored on a passed ball to tie the game, before an Arlina Reyes RBI single put Baruch in front 4-3. Baruch scored their fifth run of the inning thanks to aggressive base running by Reyes.

Petrunti doubled and drove home Victoria Kisling to add an insurance run in the fifth.

Kisling earned the win after pitching a complete game. The sophomore struck out nine batters and did not allow a run over the final six innings.

Game 2

The Bearcats came out hot in the second game, scoring 11 runs in the first two innings. Kaitlyn Rivera was the star at the plate. The freshman had four hits, including two doubles, to go along with seven RBIs. Fellow freshman Daniela Lopez also had a big day, hitting two doubles and driving in three runs.

Danielle Petrunti crossed the plate four times, after reaching base with two singles and two walks. Eight different Bearcats got a hit in the game.

Victoria Kisling again pitched the complete game, striking out six batters and earning the win.

The Bearcats will be put to the test in their next matchup. They host the six-time defending CUNYAC champions, the College of Staten Island, in a doubleheader on Randall's Island on Sunday, March 31, with the first game scheduled for 12 PM.
