Bearcats Outslug Old Westbury (12-9)

The baseball team defeated the Panthers of SUNY Old Westbury 12-9 today at MCU Park in Brooklyn.

The Bearcats had 15 hits against their opponents from the Skyline Conference, as they extended their win streak to four games.

The Bearcats went ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the second when Gerardo Roque hit an RBI groundout to drive in Kemal Deljanin.

The Bearcats then blew the game open with a five-run third inning. With the bases loaded, Conor McCabe hit a single to the right side to drive in Nicholas Valeriano and Davic Capellan. Deljanin then hit a sacrifice fly, allowing Michael McGroarty to cross home plate. The next man up, Jorge Keith Mercado, hit a single to drive in McCabe. Mercado eventually scored in the inning thanks to heads-up base running.

Mercado picked up his second RBI of the day in the fourth, hitting a single to drive in Deljanin. It was Mercado's second of his four hits in the game.

Trailing 7-0 after four innings, the Panthers scored six straight to get within a run of the Bearcats.

However, the Bearcats used a four-run sixth inning to regain control of the game. Liam O'Gara had the big hit. The sophomore doubled to left-center field with the bases loaded, driving in all three runners and giving Baruch a 10-7 advantage. O'Gara eventually scored on a wild pitch.

Angelo Alessandro singled to drive in Mercado in the eighth to give the Bearcats breathing room.

Angel Acevedo started the game and earned his third win of the season. The junior struck out five batters in five innings of work, while allowing just two earned runs.

Nicholas D'Angelo struck out three Panthers over the final 2.2 innings to pick up the save.

The Bearcats look to extend their lead atop the CUNYAC standings in their next game against CCNY. The two teams face off Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Salesian High School in New Rochelle.
