Dear Baruch Bearcat Student-Athletes,
As the sun sets on another year of Baruch Athletics it has been anything but ordinary. We went from winning 7 championships in 2018-2019 to winning just one this year with the preparedness and promise of having won 4 more if the spring teams had the opportunity to compete.
Instead, in true Bearcats fashion you pivoted and planted yourselves firmly in the academic arena and stayed fully committed to learning a new skill which has also undoubtedly changed you forever. You entered the environment of online learning and did so successfully.
Throughout the weeks we were thrusted into our 'Stay Safe, Stay Home' world, I met on occasion with each team via Zoom team meetings. On each of those meeting opportunities, I was impressed at just how well you were all getting along and exemplifying grit. You were staying the course, exercising your brain muscle, instead of your physical muscle this time to get it done and done well.
As on the field, in the pool, on the court and course, because you are student-athletes you knew just how to adjust when the play changed. You observed, assessed and came up with a new game plan for success. That is what Baruch Bearcats do.
I am so proud of how you all handled yourselves this year for those of you who got to complete the season and those who didn't. Those who received accolades and those who didn't. In the end, it doesn't matter how you finished the journey but what you learned along the way. That's the trophy you want to earn in life.
My hope for all of our student-athletes is that your time this year as a Baruch Bearcat was well spent. That you enjoyed the friendships you made on the team, the comradery you experienced, the relationships you built with athletic department administrators and that you are one step further in your preparation for life and what it will throw you.
Whether you are moving on from Baruch as a graduating senior or returning to us in the fall, don't forget what you have been taught, both on and off the playing field. Continue to be a leader among family and friends and in your community. Be a responsible citizen and a good representation of all of those who have invested their time to prepare you for this point in your life.
I wish you the best. I will be cheering you on.
Once a Bearcat, Always a Bearcat.
Sincerely,
Ms. Mac Culloch
