Our 24th interview is Matthew Lawlor from the baseball team.
Q: How many credits are you taking this semester?
Â
I am taking 12 credits. I front loaded all my courses so that I would have the opportunity to "take it easy" in my final semester of undergraduate.
Â
Q: What is your best workout routine?
Â
During the season my workout routine consists of a three mile run followed by a 10-15 minute stretch. After that, I typically would do arm care (bands, shoulder mobility, elbow stretching, etc.). Once the warmup is complete, I would move onto whatever day I was on for my throwing program, whether that be a bullpen, long toss or pitch control. Finally, I would get in whatever lift I had for the day typically lasting an hour or so.
Â
Q: Do you have a self-care routine? What is it?
Â
I've just recently started meditating and it is a very calming practice, especially in times like these. Breath control is crucial to delivering results on the mound.
Â
Q: If you could play with anybody in your sport, who would it be?
Â
Amir Garrett, to play with someone who has that much fire and love for the game and plays with a "get the job done no matter what" attitude, there's nothing like it.
Â
Q: What made you decide to attend Baruch College?
Â
New York City, the opportunities were endless. I could go to school, work at the same time while gaining experience in my field, all while being able to play the sport I love.
Â
Q: What do you miss the most about being on campus with your team and playing?
Â
The culture. Being around that group of guys that we had in our last year was a really special feeling. On track to go into our second NCAA tournament getting ready to blow out the competition back up here in New York after our trip to Florida was a feeling I keep with me forever.
Â
Q: If you could be any animal for 24 hours, which one would it be?
Â
Eagle. I love to travel and to be able to fly around like that would be an unreal experience.
Â
Q: What is the first thing you will do when life goes back to normal?
Â
Travel as much as I can and as far as I can.
Â
Q: Do you have any pre-game superstitions?
Â
I usually like to cook and eat a big meal the night before a game. My dad did it often for me when I was growing up and taught me how to cook at a young age. Most of the time its around four courses and I'll typically eat around six plates of food altogether.Â
Â
Q: What made you decide to play baseball?
Â
I remember watching a Yankees classic of Jim Abbott's no hitter and hearing the crowd go absolutely wild and immediately knew I wanted to be a part of that feeling. I ran into my parents room and immediately started begging them to sign me up.
Â
Q: What is your dream job? Where do you hope to see yourself 10 years from now?
Â
In 10 years I hope to have a large impact on the younger generations, whether that be as a teacher or a coach or where ever I'm best suited to have an impact.
