Women's Volleyball Wins 5-Set Thriller Against John Jay on Bearcat Appreciation Night

The women's volleyball team battled back on Bearcat Appreciation Night to defeat the Bloodhounds of John Jay College in five exciting sets on Tuesday night in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats struggled early and fell behind 2-1 in sets, but bounced back winning the fourth set 25-23 hitting a strong .370 to force a fifth-set tie-breaker.

The tie breaker began in a rough way with the visiting Bloodhounds jumping out to a 5-1 lead that forced a timeout, but the Bearcats never lost their composure and used timely hitting and blocking to eventually get a 14-14 tie.

John Jay called a timeout at 14-14 and when the teams returned to the court the Bearcats took the last two winning points on an attack error by the Bloodhounds and a kill by Sarah Chung to finish off the impressive victory in front of an excited home crowd.

The Bloodhounds recorded more kills (55) and a better hitting percentage this evening, but the Bearcats (46 kills) were more effective, especially when it counted the most in the last two sets. They also recorded 13 blocks compared to only 7 by their opponent.

Prior to the match, the team and coaches honored their final year players Julia Perkowski, Mariely Taveras, Emilie Kaziu and Sarah Chung for their service and hard work to the team.
