Bearcats Split DH Against CCNY

The baseball team began the CUNYAC portion of their schedule on Sunday afternoon against CCNY at the Bronx Community College baseball complex.

The visiting Bearcats began in a big way in the opening game scoring 15 runs on 15 hits and getting a superb pitching performance from Nathaniel Demchak (6.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 7 K) to win 15-1.

The Bearcats led 5-0 after three innings and later broke it open with four runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to earn their first win of the season.

The top four batters totaled nine hits, nine runs and 10 RBI in the victory.

Pedro Tejada, Jr. led batting 3-for-5 with three RBI singles, while Roy Longarzo scored three times.

Andrew Horyczun smacked a three-run homer in the sixth inning, while Joseph Cocozza was busy again with a double, triple, four runs scored and three RBI.
    
Steven Patterson picked up where he left off last season batting 3-for-4, with two RBI and a walk.  

In the second game, the Bearcats started well with Cocozza smacking an RBI triple and Tejada, Jr hitting a RBI double for the early 2-0 lead.

The host Beavers though scored seven runs in their bottom first and added five more in the third to lead 12-7 after three innings. They sealed the win with four runs in the fifth inning to finish with 18-hits.

Cocozza and Tejada, Jr finished with two hits each in the tough loss, while rookie Jake Ourvan had a solid game batting 2-for-2 with a walk.
