Bearcats Fall in CUNYAC Playoff

The baseball team lost to the Lightning of Lehman College, 7-4, in the CUNYAC playoff on Tuesday afternoon at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, New York.

Lehman scored twice in their opening at-bat for the early 2-0 advantage but the Bearcats battled back behind Pedro Tejada, Jr. who had a SAC fly RBI in the first inning and an RBI single in the third for the 2-2 score after three innings.

Lehman responded with two runs on three hits in the fourth but the Bearcats again rallied to tie in the sixth inning on a SAC fly RBI by Jake Ourvan and Brian Hwang scoring on an error for the 4-4 tie.

Unfortunately, the Lehman bats came alive again in the seventh inning with two more runs on 2 hits and 1 error to lead 6-4. They added an insurance run in the ninth inning on a solo homer by Jeremmy Santos.

The Bearcats were unable to get a rally going and suffered the loss. They will miss the CUNYAC championship series for only the second time in 13 years.

Cocozza led the Bearcats at the plate batting 3-5 with a run scored.

Lead-off hitter Frederick de la Rosa was tops for Lehman batting 4-5 with 2 runs scored.

The loss ends the Bearcats' season at 11-14.
