The Bearcats advanced to the second day of the CUNYAC Softball Championship after splitting their two playoff games today at the Brooklyn College Athletic Complex.

The Bearcats lost a heart-breaker to Hunter 3-2 but returned strong to win their second game and eliminate Brooklyn 7-3. They will play John Jay tomorrow in an elimination game at 1:00 p.m.

Against Hunter, the Bearcats took a quick 2-0 lead in their first at-bat thanks to a two-run triple by Milagros Arias to bring home Mia Faddah and Carly Quint.

The game stayed that way until the bottom half of the fifth when Hunter cut the score to 2-1 with a fielder's choice RBI. They took the lead for the first time 3-2 in their bottom sixth on an RBI double and sacrifice fly. The Bearcats tried to rally in their final at-bat but fell short in the tough 3-2 loss to their rivals.

In the second (elimination) game against Brooklyn, the Bearcats struck again early with three runs in their first at-bat on a two-run single by Faddah to score Quint and Julia Cuttone. They added a run to make it 4-0 in the fifth on a double by Bridget Campanelli and she scored on a fielding error.

Brooklyn scored twice in the top of the fifth to cut the score to 3-2 but the Bearcats quickly responded in the bottom fifth with three more runs. Quint had a ground-rule two-run double that scored Leilani Jimenez and Melanie Robles. Faddah did it again and hit an RBI single for the 7-2 score. Brooklyn added one more run in the top of the sixth for 7-3 and that stood as final score.

Caroline Gallagher earned her seventh pitching win of the season with a complete game five-hitter and only one walk for the post-season victory that keeps the team alive to play another day for the championship on Friday against John Jay College. A complete schedule is below and please note Friday's schedule is subject to change due to weather.
