Women's Volleyball Splits Home Tri-Match

The women's volleyball team continued their busy home schedule on Saturday hosting a tri-match with the Pratt Institute and the New Jersey City University in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats and Cannoneers faced off in a non-conference battle to start the first of a tri-match on Saturday morning in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats looked to add to their four-match winning streak and they accomplished that in a 3-1 win.

They lost the first set 22-25, but won their next three sets 26-24, 25-22, 25-17 for the comeback win. Karen Pozo Castro dished out 33 assists, topping her previous performance when she had 24 assists on Thursday against Old Westbury. The team had a total of 41 today kills against Pratt as Karolina Lundqvist led with a career-high 13 and Dibjot Kaur followed with 11.

In the second set, the score was tied at 24 but Isabella Doring scored to make it 25-24. Then, Caroline Elfner made a huge dig to keep the ball alive and Pratt committed an attack error which helped the Bearcats' seal the second set win at 26-24 en route to the four-set win.

Three players had double-digits in digs: Elfner with 15, Kaur 12, and Isabella Doring 11.

Emily Sontag led the visiting Cannoneers from Brooklyn and the Atlantic East Conference with 22 assists.

New Jersey City defeated Pratt 3-1 in the middle match of the day.

The Bearcats and the Gothic Knights faced off in a non-conference battle to start the final match of the tri-match on Saturday afternoon in ARC Arena.

The Bearcats were looking to add to their five-match winning streak after beating Pratt Institute 3-1 in the morning match.

They lost in three sets to their opponent from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).

In the second set, the Bearcats led 20-13 before the Gothic Knights took the lead scoring eight unanswered and ultimately lost the set 25-23.

In the last set, the Bearcats could not find their rythmn as the Knights continued their momentum in their favor winning 25-16 for ther victory.

Rookies' Michelle Murillo and Karolina Lundqvist lead the team in kills combining for 15 of the team's 28 in the match.

Caroline Elfner and Karen Pozo Castro lead the team with 10 digs each. Castro also dished out 24 assists to go with her 10 digs.

Dibjot Kaur had five kills surpassing 100 for the season.

Brenda Gonzalez led the visiting Knights with 24 kills.
