Softball Splits Doubleheader at Saint Elizabeth

The softball team took on the Eagles of Saint Elizabeth University in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon in Morristown, New Jersey.

The visiting Bearcats and Eagles split the two exciting contests.

The Eagles in the opener took the lead early 2-0 in the first inning, and the score stayed that way until senior Milagros Arias smacked a two-run single to score Leilani Jimenez and Bridget Campanelli to tie the game in the fifth inning.

The Bearcats struck again in the seventh inning with what stood as the winner, as Arias scored on an error for the 3-2 advantage

Rookie Reina Castro-Johnson (7 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 K) pitched a solid game by not allowing any runs after the first inning en route to winning her sixth game.

The two teams played a high-scoring affair in the second game and exchanged leads multiple times. In the end, the Eagles won the contest in their final at-bat 10-9.

Ava Lavery, the CUNYAC Rookie of the Week, had another big game, batting 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Jules Wychunas (two runs) and Mia Faddah (one double) had two hits each. Leilani Jimenez had a triple.
