Baseball Wins Sixth All-Time CUNYAC Championship, Roy Longarzo Voted Championship MVP

The baseball team defeated the Beavers of CCNY, 14-10, in the third game of the Best of Three Championship Series on Sunday afternoon to win their sixth all-time CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Title in team history.

The Bearcats and Beavers combined for 24 runs and 38 hits in a thriller at Reinhart Field at SUNY Maritime, where the Bearcats scored three insurance runs in the ninth inning to seal the championship.

Roy Longarzo was voted Championship MVP after batting 8-for-18 (.444), with 10 RBI, seven runs, four doubles, and two home runs, in an outstanding performance throughout the tournament's four games.

Joseph Cocozza finished his storied career here at Baruch, hitting for the cycle today (4-for-5, 3 RBI, 3 runs, single, double, triple, homer) as the Bearcats won their first CUNYAC Title since 2022.

History was also made by relief pitcher Joseph Bello, who recorded his fourth save of the season and the sixth of his career, which now gives the junior from Long Island the distinction of being Baruch's all-time save leader with six.

The Bearcats jumped out to an 11-3 advantage in the neutral site game after six innings, but CCNY kept it interesting by scoring six runs in the seventh inning and added another in the eighth inning to get as close as 11-10 behind the hitting of Erik Rank (RBI double), Jason Roser (RBI single), Kevin Budzinski (3 RBI double), and Demetri Zirogiannis (RBI single).

That set up a tense ninth inning, and the Bearcats rose to the challenge as Peter Marino hit an RBI triple, Cocozza hit an RBI double, and Nicholas Benedetto hit an RBI single to account for the three important insurance runs for the 14-10 score.

Bello pitched a quick 1-2-3 ninth inning, and the celebration started as the squad ran from the dugout to celebrate.

John Kim gets the pitching win to finish his rookie season with a 5-2 record.
