Baseball Sweeps Lehman to Finish Regular Season with 8-4 CUNYAC Record, Playoffs Start Tuesday

The baseball team finished their regular season schedule by sweeping a doubleheader against the Lightning of Lehman College on Thursday afternoon in the Bronx.

The Bearcats won 20-2 and 8-6 to finish the important CUNYAC portion of their schedule with an 8-4 record.

The conference office will soon announce the championship tournament schedule, which will go to tie-breakers with the Bearcats, CCNY, and John Jay each finishing in an exciting first-place tie with 8-4 records. The Tournament starts on Tuesday.

The Bearcats are on a six-game winning streak and have averaged 13 runs per game in their last nine overall contests.

They totaled 16 hits in the game one 20-2 victory behind the efforts of Joseph Cocozza, Joseph Bello, and Kenneth Pastrana who finished with three hits each. Bello (6 RBI) and Pastrana (5 RBI) also homered in a monster game.

Nicholas Morabito contributed in a big way batting 2-3 with a double and four RBI.

The Bearcats broke open game one with nine runs in the fourth inning and seven more in the fifth inning. Troy Vigilis (6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) earns the win and is now a perfect 3-0 this season. Ryan Foerst struck out two batters in one inning of relief.

The second game was a much closer contest with the Bearcats pulling out the win, 8-6.

Matthew Rappa batted 3-for-3, with two doubles, two RBI, and one stolen base. Roy Longarzo also had a big bat going 3-for-4, with three RBI, one run, a triple, and two stolen bases.

John Kim (3 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K) earns the win in relief and now owns a 4-2 record this season.
