Bearcats Baseball Sweeps Lehman in CUNYAC Doubleheader, Bearcats 8-0 in CUNYAC

The Baruch College Bearcats completed a sweep of the Lightning of Lehman College on Friday afternoon, taking both games of a CUNYAC doubleheader at the SUNY Old Westbury Baseball Complex.

The Bearcats rallied for a 14–8 victory in the opener after falling behind early, then left little doubt in an 11–1 win in the nightcap to remain unbeaten in conference play at 8-0.

Game One: Baruch 14, Lehman 8

The Bearcats shook off a 4–1 deficit with a decisive six-run third inning to seize control of the opener. Roy Longarzo delivered a key two-run single during the rally, while Matthew Rappa added an RBI single to help Baruch surge ahead, 7–4.

They widened the gap in the fifth inning, plating five more runs to put the game out of reach. Longarzo came through again with a clutch RBI single, and Zachary Niedzwiecki also had an RBI single as the Bearcats' offense stayed relentless.

Andrew LaPointe earned the win on the mound, striking out four over five innings of work. John Kim closed out the victory by pitching the final two innings in relief, allowing the Bearcats to secure the 14–8 win.

Game Two: Baruch 11, Lehman 1

The Bearcats carried their momentum into the second game, jumping out to an 8–1 lead after just two innings. Benjamin Norwood was in complete control, surrendering no earned runs while striking out seven over five innings to earn his fifth win of the regular season.

Joseph Bello provided strong relief, tossing two scoreless innings as they cruised to an 11–1 victory and completed the sweep.

Peter Marino led the Bearcats offensively on the day, collecting three hits, driving in three runs, and scoring three times. Longarzo also had a standout performance, finishing the doubleheader with three hits and three RBI.

With the sweep, the Bearcats improved to a perfect 8–0 in CUNYAC play, maintaining its grip atop the conference standings with four conference contests remaining in the regular season.
