Fourth Annual Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner

The Athletic Department inducted four special individuals into the Baruch College Athletic Hall of Fame in a special dinner featuring VIPs, alumni and current student-athletes on Friday, October 16.
Greg Clerkin (baseball), Len Mitchell (men’s basketball), Jamees Wright (women’s basketball) and Ralph Sirianni (equipment manager) were inducted into a special group that now features 24 former student-athletes or athletic administrators.
Ralph Sirianni, who passed away during March 2009, was inducted posthumously in front of his family and friends.
The Hall of Fame was created four years ago and serves to honor individuals for their hard work and success during their time with the department.

We are proud to announce the 2009 Induction Class...
Greg Clerkin (Baseball, 1998-2001)
Greg was a highly recruited all-city player from James Madison High School in Brooklyn. He earned an academic scholarship to attend Baruch in 1998, and quickly earned the nickname “Franchise” because of his value to the team. Greg was a three year team captain (1999-2001), and led Baruch to its first-ever baseball championship in 2001, capping off a stellar playing career and the resurgence of Baruch baseball. His career batting average was .352, with over 100 RBI’s and 133 hits. He earned All-Star honors four times, and was also an outstanding pitcher -- leading the team twice in wins.
Len Mitchell (Men's Basketball, 1996-2000)
Len possessed a unique combination of power and skill. A four year starter, Len finished his career with 1,549 points, which stands as a Baruch record as of his 2009 induction. Len also ranks second in games played (107), third in blocked shots (136), and fifth in rebounding (735). A two-time CUNYAC All-Star, Len led the then Statesmen to their first CUNYAC Championship in 2000.
Ralph Sirianni (Equipment Manager)
For over 35 years (1972-2007), Ralph was the “Godfather of Baruch Athletics.” As equipment manager, he was unassuming and an irreplaceable asset to the athletics family. As curator and steward, Ralph Sirianni was a friend to the athletes and a faithful champion of integrity, commitment, and service of excellence to the entire Baruch College community.
Jamees Wright (Women's Basketball, 2000-2003)
Jamees was a versatile and talented leader. As a three-year starter and captain, she finished in the top 10 Baruch career statistical categories for points (1,052), rebounds (620), steals (368), assists (296) and blocked shots (107). Each year, the team displayed growth and improvement by increasing their win total every season and advancing further into the playoffs. Overall, Jamees was a dominant player for both Baruch and CUNYAC basketball.

Stanley Barbot (Men's Volleyball & Soccer, 1982-1986)
From 1982-1986, Stanley Barbot was the pre-eminent athlete at Baruch College. As a four-year soccer and volleyball player, Stanley’s athleticism and passion were in full display. In volleyball as the team setter, Stanley led Baruch to a CUNYAC championship in 1985, as well as being twice named All-Conference. As a truly dominant midfield player in soccer during his era, Stanley was again named All-Conference twice. His power and speed separated him from his opponents, and made it an event to watch him play. Stanley was team captain for both squads, and in 1985, he was named Baruch Male Athlete of the Year.
Maria Epp Caltabiano (Women's Basketball, 1987-1991)
From 1987-1991, Maria was one of the region’s top basketball players and ended her brilliant playing career as a starting forward with 1,021 points, 610 rebounds and 75 blocked shots. She was named the Team’s Rookie of the Year during the 1987-88 season, and was later named Team MVP following the 1990-91 season. In addition, her efforts were recognized by conference coaches when she was voted to the CUNYAC All-Tournament Team in 1991. A hard worker and a true team player with a picture perfect jump shot, Maria enters the Hall of Fame for a distinguished career in women’s basketball.
Bobby Francis (Men's Soccer, 1975-1976)
Bobby Francis was both a player (1975-76) and coach (2001-03) for the men’s soccer team. As a starting forward, his quick speed and versatility played a significant part in leading the team in 1976 to a school record 9-3-1, which included a victory against nationally-ranked Adelphi University. During his two-year playing career, he tallied 20 goals and received New York All-State Honors. As a coach, he recruited talented student-athletes and played a competitive schedule.
Jimmy Resvanis (Men's Basketball, 1990-1994)
From 1990-1994, Jimmy set the standard for all future point guards with his exceptional play-making ability. A true extension of the coach, Jimmy helped guide the Statesmen to 2 ECAC bids and 1 CUNYAC Final appearance. His fearless style of play, coupled with uncanny court sense and lightning quickness, made the “Blurh” an unstoppable force. A First Team CUNYAC All-Star, 3-year captain and 4-year starter, Jimmy finished his career with 1,022 points and holds the all-time assist record with 602.

Former Coach of Archery
From 1963 to 1997, Helen was an instrumental figure in Baruch Athletics. As Senior Women’s Athletic Administrator, she provided direction for student-athletes and was responsible for all aspects of Baruch’s NCAA women’s varsity teams. As Archery Coach, she coached the co-ed teams and helped them rise to full varsity status. She was also an outstanding teacher who was able to generate student interest and address the needs and issues that relate directly to the lives of Baruch students.

For more than 30 years, Dr. Eng has served as Director of Athletics with distinction, compassion, and leadership in overseeing the entire athletic and physical education program. During his tenure, he led the change in transforming the Baruch facilities from a small gym on 23rd Street to a state-of-the-art three-level NCAA facility. He has led Baruch to two Commissioner Cup Championships. He also coached the women’s tennis team to three CUNYAC Championships. In addition, he coached men‘s soccer and women's cross-country. Dr. William Eng has left an indelible mark in Baruch Athletics history.
Peter Lewison
Olympic Fencer
Peter, a 1984 graduate and team captain, was a two-time CUNY Foil Champion, Baruch MVP, and a 1981 NCAA 1st Team All-American. In 1984, he won the USFA North American Circuit Championship, and in 1989, he was the USFA National Foil Champion and named the USOC Fencing Athlete of the Year. His prestige in fencing extended to two Olympic appearances, in Los Angeles (1984) and in Seoul (1988).
Scott Losche
Baseball
One of the finest baseball players to ever don a Baruch uniform, Scott was a three-time Knickerbocker and two-time CUNY All-Star. He was one of the few players ever to be named an All-Star both as a position player and as a pitcher. A three-year team captain, Scott finished his career with a .395 batting average and twice finished in the CUNY top 10 for batting average. A clutch run producer, Scott ended his career with more than 100 RBI. After his stellar playing career, Scott was named the head baseball coach in 2000. He was twice named CUNY coach of the Year and in 2001 led Baruch to its first CUNY baseball title.
Aziza Mashariki
Cheerleading & Dance
Aziza, a 2000 graduate with a degree in business administration, is a four-time CUNYAC Cheerleading Champion and team captain during her junior and senior year. She was named the team's Most Valuable Player due to her leadership skills and team dedication. During her years at Baruch, Aziza was a catalyst in assisting her coach with choreographing championship cheer and dance routines.
Irina Shinderman Zaretsky
Women's Tennis
Irina was one of the premier Division III Women's Tennis student athletes from 1992-1996. She was the Hudson Valley Athletic Conference #1 singles and #1 doubles champion during all four of her playing years. In CUNY, Irina's relentless style of play and dominant forehand garnered her two #1 singles championships, as well as two doubles championships.
John Steuer
Men's Basketball
A tough competitor, John brought a high level of intensity to the game. His trademark jump shot made him a two time MVP, the first player at Baruch to score 1,000 points, and the Baruch Athlete of the Year in 1977. He enjoyed excellent relationships with his coaches and friendships with his teammates. John credits the people he encountered through his Baruch basketball experience for assisting him in achieving his academic, athletic and career goals.

Burt Beagle
Baseball & Basketball
A 1956 graduate, Burt has worn many hats. He is a former sports information director, school’s sports historian, and also serves as associate baseball coach. However, his greatest accomplishment is his consecutive streak as a statistician for men’s basketball, which started during the 1968-69 season and currently stands at 930 games through 2005-06. Burt's diligence and dedication has been a selfless act of his time and efforts to Baruch.
Yvette Forges-Caraballo
Cheerleading & Dance Team
Forges, 1993 graduate and Dean’s List student, has won 15 cheerleading championships for Baruch, as player or coach. In addition to coaching, she served as the team’s choreographer, starting in 1988 through 2002. As a testament to her talents, she won every single championship during her 11 years of conference competition.
Harvey Jackson
Administrator
For over 30 years, Harvey has faithfully been the Baruch athlete's best and most influential friend. As Director of SEEK Transfers and Academic Counselor, all Baruch athletes have availed themselves of his expertise and sage advice. Harvey also served as Men's Basketball Coach for two years from 1976-78.
Sean McGee
Men's Basketball
Sean, a 1996 graduate, helped lay the foundation for Baruch's consistent success by being named a three-time CUNYAC All-Star. As a junior, he ranked second in the nation in rebounding. He was named CUNYAC MVP and Honorable Mention All-American in his senior year, as he led the Statesmen to an ECAC bid. He finished his three-year career as the all-time leader in rebounding. He was also an all-star in the classroom, as he was a Dean’s List student. He was honored as the CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a senior.
Rodger Miller
Men’s Basketball
A 1985 graduate, Rodger was a four-year starter on the men’s basketball team from 1979-83. He became the school’s leading scorer with 1,540 career points. He played in 94 games and averaged 16.4 points. As a senior, he was voted MVP in the CUNYAC, leading Baruch to the CUNYAC championship game and an ECAC postseason berth. His 42 points against Hunter set a Baruch single-game record.
Al Peredo
Fencing Coach & Administrator
Al started the men's and women's fencing programs at Baruch. He coached an Olympic foil fencer to the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, and to a runner-up spot in the NCAA National Championship. As an administrator, he was department chair for over 10 years, and helped oversee the great emergence and success of the athletic program.
Narces Phanor
Men's Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball
A 1995 graduate, Narces is one of the school’s greatest all-around male athletes. He was the first Baruch male athlete to be named a CUNYAC all-star in two sports. His tenacity and fearlessness as a fullback garnered him two First Team CUNYAC all-star awards for soccer. His versatility enabled him to excel in various roles as a two-time CUNY all-star for volleyball. A consummate team player, he was also a starter on the men's basketball team his senior year. Narces has set the standard for future generations, as he was captain of all three teams.
Sybil Smith
Women’s Basketball & Volleyball
Smith, a 1995 graduate, is a three-time basketball and one-time volleyball MVP for the CUNYAC. As a basketball star, she won the NCAA 1995 Div. III Rebounding Title (23.8) and finished second in scoring (21.1). As a volleyball star, she was honored twice as Hudson Valley MVP, and won the CUNYAC MVP in 1995. There has been no greater two-sport women's athlete in school history.
Hilary Williams
Women’s Basketball
Williams, a 1991 graduate and Dean’s List student, is a two-time CUNYAC basketball MVP. She is the first women’s player in school history to record a triple-double, and is the women’s basketball team all-time leader in scoring (1,830), rebounding (1,342), and steals (477). During her junior year, she averaged an impressive 26.7 points and 16.2 rebounds per game. During her four years, Hilary will be remembered as one of the most dominant players in Baruch history.
