He most recently guided the Bearcats to the 2022 and 2025 CUNYAC Championships. In 2019, he led the team to both the CUNYAC and NAC titles and their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. For his outstanding work that season, he was named CUNYAC Coach of the Year for the third time in his career.
Torres also coached Baruch to CUNYAC Championships in 2009 and 2012, along with runner-up finishes in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. Under his leadership, the Bearcats recorded back-to-back 20-win seasons in 2012 and 2013.
Before coaching, Torres enjoyed a successful professional pitching career in the minor leagues with the Kansas City Royals (Butte, Montana) and Los Angeles Dodgers (Bakersfield and San Antonio) organizations. With the Royals, he earned Pioneer League All-Star honors and was named the organization’s Player of the Month in July 1983, posting a dominant 6–0 record with a 0.33 ERA and 27 consecutive shutout innings. He later spent time with the Detroit Tigers during 1994 spring training.
A standout athlete at Cardinal Hayes High School, Torres was a 1977 Catholic High School Athletic Association and New York Daily News First Team selection. He went on to compete for Baruch College as an undergraduate.
In addition to his responsibilities as Head Baseball Coach, Torres also helps oversee the college’s athletic facilities.
