CUNYAC RELEASE
The CUNY Athletic Conference today officially announced that Baruch Men's Soccer Head Coach Ranford Champagnie has been named the 2006 Coach of the Year in voting by the league's coaches.
In addition, the Bearcats had five players named to the Conference's First and Second All-Star Teams.
Champagnie, a member of St. John's University 1996 Division I National Championship squad, led Baruch to their second NCAA appearance in the three seasons after the Bearcats won the conference tournament as the No. 2 seed.
Baruch finished the 2006 season with a record of 12-7-1 and were 5-2-1 in the CUNYAC.
“I am grateful to my peers for recognizing me for the second time in my career," Champagnie said. “I want to thank the coaching staff and all my players that made this season a memorable one. I dedicate this award to my players and my coaches who worked hard to make this achievement a true team effort.”
Four players were named CUNYAC First Team All-Stars for their brilliant season that ended in the NCAA Tournament.
The first team players were senior striker Alex Sokol (10 goals, 2 assist), junior midfielder Caner Yilmaz (4 goals, 2 assists), junior midfielder David Shin (3 goals, 7 assists), and solid senior defender Thomas Murdoch (2 goals).
Sophomore striker Rafal Dziekanowski (4 goals, 4 assist) was named to the Second All-Star Team.
