The softball team dropped a pair to Hunter College in a home conference doubleheader played on Wednesday afternoon at the CSI softball complex.
The Hawks won 4-2 and 11-1 to take control of first place in the conference standings of the West Division.
In the opener, the Bearcats (11-15, 7-2 CUNYAC) scored first in the second inning. Freshman Cynthia Duran (New York, N.Y./Murry Bergtraum) tripled, and came home to score on a single by senior Seryi Betancourt (Bronx. N.Y./DeWitt Clinton).
Hunter (15-11, 9-0 CUNYAC) rallied with their four runs in the sixth inning to go up, 4-1, via three singles and three costly fielding errors.
Baruch got one run back in the seventh inning, Duran hitting her second triple and Betancourt driving her home again with her second RBI single of the game.
In the second game, Hunter pitcher Nicole Grilli (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison) dominated on the mound, limiting the Bearcats to one run on just three hits.
Hunter scored six times in the second inning to break open the scoring.
The only Baruch run came in the third inning, as freshman Jessica Cosme (Queens, N.Y./Fashion Industries) reached base on a double and scored on a single by senior Leidy Nunez (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton).
Baruch will return to action with a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday against Montclair State. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
