Hot Shooting By Hawks Downs the Bearcats

The Hunter College Hawks knocked off the Bearcats, 83-70, in a conference match up on Friday night at the Hunter Sportsplex.

The game began to take shape in the last four minutes of the first half, as the Hawks broke a tie (31-31) with a 15-2 run to lead at halftime, 46-33. 

The lead grew to as much as 16 points during the early part of the second half, but the Bearcats fought back to cut the deficit to four points (65-61) on an Adrian Serrano (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ the King) 3-pointer with 9:28 remaining.

Hunter responded with three 3-pointers by Michael Dodd (Jamaica, N.Y./Hillcrest) in the next four minutes to go back up again by double-digits (74-63) with 6:48 remaining. That run held up the rest of the game as the Hawks finished with nine total 3-pointers.

Joseph DeLuca (Maspeth, N.Y./Christ the King) and Frantz Millien (Rockland, N.Y./North Rockland) each scored 24 points to lead Hunter College. Millien also recorded a double-double with 13 rebounds.

Adrian Serrano scored all 17 points of his points during the second half and hit five-of-seven from 3-point range to lead the Bearcats.

Phil Schatz (Middle Village, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) and Tammer Farid (Woodside, N.Y./Stuyvesant) scored 14 points each.

George Kunkel (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) had another double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds, while Laurence Smith (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass) scored 11 points and notched two steals.

Mike Dietz (Queens, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) contributed eight points, four rebounds and three assists.

Baruch finished the game shooting 10-of-17 from 3-point range (Serrano, 5; Farid 4; Dietz 1).

The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, January 29, with a 7:00 pm non-conference home game against the Stevens Institute of Technology (14-2, 8-2 Empire 8), which is currently ranked #21 nationally.

The match up will also feature an exciting battle between top Baruch freshman guard Tammer Farid (12.4 points) and his brother, Waleed Farid (11.4 points, 7.2 rebounds), who at the start of the current season was named a D3hoops.com Preseason All-American.
