The Lightning of Lehman College knocked off the Bearcats, 60-58, in a conference contest on Saturday afternoon in the Bronx.
The visiting Bearcats attempted 36 more shots than Lehman (23-of-57 fg, 40 percent), but struggled offensively (22-of-93 fg, 23 percent) all afternoon to suffer their only conference loss and end their 38 regular-season conference winning streak, dating back to February 2005.
The Bearcats netted one 3-pointer in 16 attempts, including a missed trey in the final seconds.
Kimberly Kelly (Brooklyn, N.Y./Paul Robeson), one of three players honored pre-game on Senior Day at the Apex Center, notched a double-double in the Lehman (15-10, 11-2 CUNYAC) home victory with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
Chiresse Paradise (Chicago, III/Rich Central) led the Bearcats (18-6, 12-1 CUNYAC) with 20 points, nine rebounds and six steals. Dominique McClendon (Chicago, III./Seaside) notched another double-double with 17 points, 12 rebounds and six steals.
The Bearcats, the top seed for the third straight year in the upcoming conference tournament, will host a quarterfinal home playoff in the ARC Arena on Sunday, February 17.
The exact time and opponent will be officially released by the conference office on Sunday afternoon. As soon as it is available, it will be posted.
In other team news, the women’s basketball team on Saturday wore customized pink t-shirts during warm ups and on the bench to join the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (W.B.C.A.) in their second year national effort to promote vital awareness for breast cancer research at campuses and communities across the country.
The initiative, which featured over 120 schools participating in 2007, is currently taking place February 8-17, and is prominently promoted as “Think Pink” week.
Today’s three game referees also worked with pink whistles, as part of their women's basketball referees effort and campaign called “Calling for a Cancer Cure".
