WOMEN'S BOX SCORE

The men’s team began their season with a victory (7-2), while the women suffered their first loss (9-0) in a non-conference tennis match played Saturday afternoon against Ramapo College in Mahwah, New Jersey.

The men, playing their first official fall match in team history, relied on plenty of returning experience to end a two-match losing streak to the Road Runners.

Jed Wilder (New York, N.Y./Windward), Emanuel Imperial (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph’s by the Sea) and Division I transfer Fedor Khrushchev (St, Petersburg, Russia/H.S. #62) all recorded individual single wins to notch their first official victory of the 2008-09 year.

The women’s team lost to their respective counterparts to drop their record to 1-1 overall on the young season. 

Irina Piskunova (Uzbekistan/H.S. #37) and Mariam Mkrtchyan (Armenia/P.M.#1) both had a solid effort in doubles, but lost 8-4.

The women’s tennis team will return to action this Tuesday with a 3:30 pm conference road match at the College of Staten Island.
