Men's Basketball Shoot 51 Percent to Defeat Medgar Evers, 91-82

The men’s basketball team defeated the Cougars of Medgar Evers College, 91-82, in the CUNYAC opener for both teams on Tuesday night in the ARC Arena.

Tammer Farid scored 19 points to lead four players in double-figure scoring as the Bearcats (4-1, 1-0 CUNYAC) also stretched their regular season win streak to 17 games against CUNYAC opponents.

Farid shot 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-4 from three point range for his 19 points, while George Kunkel (7 rebounds, 4 assists), Sean Loftus (7 rebounds) and Chris Beauchamp (5 assists, 2 steals) scored 17 points each. Lionel Hilaire finished with nine points, six rebounds and three assists.

Arki Wisnu came off the bench to contribute seven points, four rebounds and two steals.

Overall, the men’s basketball team shot 51 percent (28-55) this evening, and out-rebounded the Cougars by a 41-30 margin.

Medgar Evers got as close as 65-60 with 7:59 left, but Baruch went on a 19-8 run in the next six minutes to lead comfortably by the score of 84-68 with just under two minutes remaining.

Ronald Holloway led five players in double-figure scoring for visiting Medgar Evers (2-5, 1-0 CUNYAC) with 20 points and six rebounds.

The men’s basketball team will return to action on Monday, December 7, with a 7:30 non-conference home game against Rutgers Newark from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).
