The softball team lost a doubleheader to the College of Staten Island on Sunday in Staten Island, New York,

With the results, the Bearcats drop to 3-5 overall, while the Dolphins improve to 3-3. The two games played today do not count toward the current CUNYAC standings.

In the opener (8-6 loss), the Bearcats jumped out to a 2-1 advantage after four innings. They scored first on a sacrifice fly by Melanie Pellegrino to bring home Erica De Rosa and again on an RBI double by Melissa Mejia.

The Dolphins responded and blew the game wide open with seven runs in the top of the fifth inning. Allysa D’Elia cleared the bases for three RBI with a double and Carmella Lubrano hit a triple to score two runs to build an 8-2 lead.

Baruch rallied in their next at-bat and scored four runs to get as close as 8-6. Gisell Alix had a two run single and Michele Runko hit a two run double to turn the contest back into a competitive affair.

Unfortunately, the Bearcats could not add to their total, as relief pitcher Kaitlyn Flynn allowed only one hit in the final two innings to clinch the victory.

The Dolphins came back again to score the final six runs of the contest, including four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead. They added their final two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two run double by Raechel Strobel to finish the 7-2 victory for the doubleheader sweep.

The Bearcats will return to action on Thursday, March 19, with a non-conference road doubleheader at St. Elizabeth College from the Association of Division III Independents. First pitch in Morristown, New Jersey is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
