The softball team battled rival Hunter College in a CUNYAC doubleheader on Monday morning at the CSI softball complex in Staten Island.

In the opening game, Andrea Tepfer led the way on the mound by pitching a complete game 3-hitter with seven total strikeouts to raise her record to 9-5 on the season.

Melissa Pena led the offensive effort by batting 3-for-4, including a triple to start the game. Pena would score the game’s first run in the same inning, as Tepfer also contributed at the plate with an RBI single for the 1-0 lead.

The Hawks did threaten in the first game with a two out rally in their bottom half of the sixth inning, but could only push one run across the plate on an RBI single by Jennifer Damroth.

In the second game, the Hawks scored the first six runs, including three in their first a-bat, to build a 6-0 lead. That was enough of a cushion for the eventual victory.

The Bearcats scored a run in each of the sixth and seventh innings, but were limited to five total hits and eventually fell by the score of 8-2.

The softball team will continue their schedule on Tuesday with a CUNYAC road doubleheader against York College. First pitch at Haggerty Field in Queens is scheduled for Noon.
